Adventures in Myspace

Well, at long last I managed to free some time to go and explore Myspace & Facebook. Interesting experience but I am not sure whether they are for me, in fact I know they are not for me.

I got into Myspace and just hit the browse button and all I got was a bunch of young females. I sit there, thinking isn't there anyone over 21 and male on Myspace, then i noticed Browse funtion had defaulted to females.

So, I ended up searching for a comicbook writer, Brian Michael Bendis (That's him below, not the most photogenic fellow going around). He had more friends then there are Melbourne members. Bunch of nerds, all dressed up in Superman outfits. Time to get out of there.

Facebook was a lot of work just to get on, so I joined up as Kangan Lite and searched for Bendis again. Sure enough he was there also, but only had about 100 friends. Interesting thing I noticed was that it also gave me hits of people who had books written by him. Interesting way to connect with other people with your interests, but life is too short and I don't have the time to talk to a bunch of comic nerds, I'll rather read. Thus, I deactivated my account and I don't envisage going back to either one for awhile.

RSS Feeds indeed

I have been trialling the new way to use the Web by subscribing via RSS feeder. The Google Reader is pretty cool and is very easy to use. I try to subscribe to Jon Faine's "Conversation hour" via the ABC webpage and it was a complete disaster. I am not sure who designs and maintains the ABC site but it's very cumbersome and hard to navigate, maybe Rudd can give them some more money to hire a decent webdesigner who knows what he's doing.

Anyway, I manged to subscribe to Jon Faine's Conversation Hour using the Google reader and it worked a treat.

Don't worry I haven't forgotten to sunscribe to couple of other blogs about libraries. The question now is, is there any way to ling my subscriptions to my blog? Can anyone help?

One-eyed Pie

It's been a busy week since I last blogged. No doubt, highlight of the week was the ANZAC Day match between Collingwood and Essendon. As a Collingwood supporter, it didn't get any better than beating Essendon by a lazy 73 points in front of a huge crowd. I even had a photo taken as you can see below.

I was surprised how much fun the image generators were. One can easily spend hours generating all sorts of images, as Shiree said, it was Fun with a capital F.

Next, I visited Librarything which I had seen once before. However this time I created my own account and enterd some of the books that are in my collection. I was amased how easy the whole thing was - well sort of. When I went back and searched under my username, mehmett57, I couldn't find a match. However I could sign in and add more titles. So does anyone have any ideas why I can not be located under member names? Please help
